The Arches

Established in 1991, the Arches is a registered charity and operates as not for profit. Theatre is at its core, proudly promoting its own Arches Theatre Company to the international theatre circuit, which is performing at the Edinburgh festival throughout August. However, it is also a leading venue for live concerts, late nightclubs, exhibitions and other arts events and performances.

The building hosts temporary exhibition spaces on the main floor and workshop. The lower floor features a sound recording studio and rehearsal spaces for bands and DJs, and excellent facilities for performers including dressing rooms, storage areas, offices and prop rooms. Late night club and live music is located in the Midland Street entrance, accessible from Jamaica Street.

A range of performances take place simultaneously throughout the building and throughout the day, enabling the venue to a run a festival style programme on a regular basis. Arches Festivals include the National Review of Live Art, Instal, Celtic Connections, Arches Festivals Theatre and Arches Live.

Following extensive refurbishment, the Arches is a fully accessible venue for socialising, dining and visiting arts events and theatrical performances.
