Centrally situated in Glasgow's Merchant City area, The Tron is a popular
venue for theatrical and performing arts. It is easily recognizable, featuring
one of Glasgow's finest and most familiar medieval landmarks, the 16th
Century Tron Church Steeple, just a few minutes from Glasgow Cross.
An extensive refurbishment in 1999 has added stylish and contemporary
new spaces within this aesthetically pleasing collection of historical
buildings. Hosting a selection of conference, meeting facilities and entertainment
spaces, the Tron Theatre is the perfect venue to hold corporate events
and private functions.
The Tron has established itself as a leading venue for both new writing
and productions of classic texts, showcasing some of the best Scottish
talent. The Tron Theatre Company was established in 1979, going fully
public in 1989 , and has produced such renowned artists as Alan Cumming,
Forbes Masson, Peter Mullan, Craig Ferguson and Siobhan Redmond .
In recent years, the Tron has produced David Greig's San Diego for the
Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2003 and collaborated the following
year to produce Anthony Neilson's The Wonderful World of Dissocia, with
The Theatre Royal Plymouth. This highly acclaimed production successfully
won 5 out of 10 awards in the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland
in 2005.
The Tron also receives small-scale stage productions and plays host to
Glasgow's many festivals including Celtic connections, Glasgow International
Jazz Festival, Glasgow International Comedy Festival, New Territories
and Glasgay!
